New FlexBooks available this fall

The following FlexBooks are available for use this coming school year. They are available as PDF downloads, though some are already fully loaded on CK-12’s official FlexBook System.  We are making these books available NOW, even though they are works in progress, so teachers can preview them for early adoption. If you have any questions, please send them to info@ck12.org.
Middle School Math and Science
CK-12 Middle School Math – Grade 6
This FlexBook covers the fundamentals of fractions, decimals, and geometry. Also explored are units of measurement, graphing concepts, and strategies for utilizing the book’s content in practical situations.

This FlexBook provides lessons that solidify students’ basic understanding of number, space and chance. It will continue to highlight patterns within arithmetic to prepare students for Algebra I.

A work in progress, CK-12 Earth Science for the middle school student covers the study of Earth – its minerals and energy resources, processes inside and on its surface, its past, water, weather and climate, the environment and human actions, and astronomy.

An introduction to Life Science, this FlexBook for the middle school student is a work in progress covering seven units: Understanding Living Things; Cells: The Building Blocks of Life; Genetics and Evolution; Prokaryotes, Protists, Fungi, and Plants; The Animal Kingdom; The Human Body; and Ecology.

CK-12 Basic Algebra
This FlexBook is an introduction to the algebraic concepts of functions, equations, and graphs for middle-school and high-school students.

Written for the beginner student, this FlexBook provides a clear presentation of the essentials of geometry for the high school student. Topics include Proof, Congruent Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Similarity, Perimeter & Area, Volume, and Transformations.

This FlexBook is an introduction to theoretical probability and data organization. Students learn about events, conditions, random variables, and graphs and tables that allow them to manage data.

This FlexBook is a very much improved second edition and provides an introduction to algebraic concepts for the high school student. Topics include: Equations and Functions, Real Numbers, Equations of Lines, Solving Systems of Equations and Quadratic Equations.

CK-12 Biology is a high school FlexBook covering cell biology, genetics, evolution, ecology, microorganisms, eukaryotes, plants, animals, and physiology – it is a work in progress.

A new and improved second edition, this FlexBook covers: Scientific Method; Matter; Atomic Structure; Elements & Their Properties; Chemical Reactions; Stoichiometry; Chemical Kinetics; Physical States of Matter; Thermodynamics; Nuclear Chemistry; and Organic Chemistry.

CK-12 Foundation and Leadership Public Schools (LPS) have partnered to introduce College Access Readers.  CK-12 provides the content and platform for low-cost, mass-customization in textbooks. LPS brings to the table instructional expertise and a real-world incubator for urban education. Together CK-12 and LPS are creating a line of curriculum resources tailored to the most challenging demographic in California and the nation. We call these resources “College Access Readers.”  Available as a PDF here.
