CK-12 is launching a site-wide chatbot to help answer students’ science questions. The chatbot uses AI with natural language processing to learn from the content and find the correct answers to students’ questions. This will allow students to get personalized help as they need it. Part of the ongoing chatbot training and curation requires incoming questions to be tagged and answers to be evaluated. Chatbot interns will work with the chatbot team to help tag questions according to type, evaluate answers, and direct the chatbot to correct answers from CK-12 content. Interns may also be asked to write answers to some student questions, according to the experience level of the intern. The goal is to process incoming questions throughout the U.S. school day to provide timely responses to student queries and continually improve chatbot performance.

- Familiarity with content tagging, content management systems is a plus
Potential Projects
- Tag student questions that have been entered into the chatbot based on the nature of the query
- Evaluate the accuracy of chatbot responses to academic (science) questions
- Direct the chatbot to Ck-12 text that can provide answers to questions
- Based on experience level, may write answers to science questions that cannot be found in current content

Requirements
- Successful completion of (minimum) high school level science coursework including earth science, biology, chemistry, and physics. (Integrated science courses are fine.)
- Pursuing a degree in science, technology, or engineering
- Able to commit to at least 6 months at 20 hours per week
